India Beat Western Australia by 13 Runs in First Warm-up Match

Perth: India defeated Western Australia (WA) by 13 runs in its first practice game ahead of the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to begin from October 16. 

Suryakumar Yadav continued his good form as the Indian team had a fine outing against Western Australia Cricket Association XI, beating the hosts by 13 runs in its first practice game ahead of the T20 World Cup, here on Monday.

With Virat Kohli rested for the warm-up game, India posted a total of 158 for six in their stipulated 20 overs against Western Australia. Suryakumar Yadav scored a half-century. Deepak Hooda and Hardik Pandya also contributed to the modest total on the newer pitch. 

Electing to bat, India was wobbly in the beginning as they lost their first wicket at a score of 15. Jason Behrendorff managed to chip away the big wicket of captain Rohit Sharma in the initial overs. Team India kept losing big players at regular intervals. India was at 45/3 in seven overs. Yadav departed immediately after scoring a half century for 52 runs and India was at 129/5 in 17 overs. Karthik (19*) and Harsh Patel (6*) finished off things on a great note as India concluded their innings at 158/6.

Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled well as WA was reduced to 11/4. Sam Fanning and Hamish McKenzie kept the scoreboard ticking. Fanning hit his half-century but was bowled out for 59 by Arshdeep. Soom the WA ended up at 145/8 in 20 overs. Indian won the match by 13 runs but it was not a clinical win.
