Assembly Polls 2023: JDS Emerges Kingmaker as Karnataka Stares at Hung Assembly

 - Sakshi Post

Bengaluru: As the polling for Karnataka Assembly elections ended on Wednesday evening, the exit polls predicted a hung Assembly in the state. It is too early to say the ruling BJP would break the 38-year jinx by returning to power in Karnataka. No ruling political party has won a successive term in the state since 1985. The final results will be out on May 13, Saturday.

According to the Election Commission, the polling for Karnataka Assembly ended at 6 pm on Wednesday and the overall voter turnout till 5 pm was recorded at 65.69 per cent.
Among the five poll agencies, 3 exit polls predicted that the Congress would come to power in the state. The pollsters from other two agencies have said BJP would break the jinx to return to power in the Southern state.

According to News Nation CGS, BJP would win the straight term as it is going to win 114 seats in the 224-member Legislative Assembly. The pollster said Congress would come a distant second by winning 86 seats in the just concluded polls. It may be noted here that the winning party should reach the majority mark of 113 seats to stake claim for government formation in the state.

Similarly, Suvarna News-Jan ki Baat also predicted BJP’s victory in the Assembly elections. The polling agency said the saffron party stands to gain 94-117 seats while Congress would get around 91-106 seats.

JD(S) appears to have lost its ground to BJP and Congress in the elections. Most polls predict the JD(S) party will likely win between 25-30 seats. In case if BJP and Congress fail to reach the majority mark, JD(S) would be kingmaker in the state.
