New SRDP Flyover At Gachibowli Junction To Come Up By June 2022

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning a new flyover in the city to reduce the traffic issues. The GHMC constructing a four-lane bi-directional flyover from Shilpa Layout to Outer Ring Road(ORR) near Gachibowli junction. The flyover is 823 metres long and 16.60 metres wide, and it is being developed as part of the State government's Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). To avoid the traffic jams at Gachibowli Junction, the project will improve the connection between Hitec City and the Financial District. Traffic conditions on the ORR-Madhapur stretch, Kondapur, will also improve, as will traffic moving towards the Meenakshi Group Buildings.

The project, which began in December 2019, is scheduled to be finished by June 2022. As of now, foundation pits have been dug and pillars have been installed. According to GHMC officials, construction is moving quite quickly. “We will fulfil the deadline. “These projects are constructed with future generations in mind,” said an engineer overseeing the flyover construction.

The estimated peak hour traffic on the Shilpa Layout route in 2020 was 1,464 passenger car units (PCU) per hour, while the projected peak hour traffic in 2040 was 5,194 PCU per hour. Peak hour traffic at the Gachibowli Junction in 2019 was 9,806 PCU per hour, with a predicted increase to 17,711 PCU per hour in 2036.

M Venkata Rao Infra Projects has been won the contract to construct the flyover, as well as the centre median and crash barriers. Aside from the Shilpa Layout flyover, the State government planned a six-lane bi-directional flyover to connect Kondapur and ORR at the second level crossing of Gachibowli Junction. Both projects have an estimated contract value of Rs 313.52 crore. To enable hassle-free travelling along the IT corridor, SRDP has erected several flyovers and underpasses, while the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited has established connecting roads.
