The Monk Who Sold His Country: Owaisi On Modi In Kedarnath

Owaisi took a dig at PM’s meditation break - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday posted a WhatsApp forward taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meditation break at the Kedarnath in Uttarakhand after the end of gruelling election campaign.

The Prime Minister spent a night meditating inside a cave on Saturday night and later thanked the Election Commission for permitting him to visit the Himalayan shrine and take a break. "I got two days rest," he said.

Owaisi in his tweet took a jibe saying that he arrived in Kedarnath as a 'king' and sat for meditation with photographers around. The picture had Modi sitting inside the cave and a book cover that read ‘the monk who sold his country’. The book’s cover is actually a photo-shopped image of the book by Robin Sharma named ‘The monk who sold his Ferrari’ .

He later said that the picture was a WhatsApp forward.

The Prime Minister's two-day visit to Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines in Uttarakhand was cleared by the EC with a reminder that poll code of conduct was in place. The photographs that were shared widely drew strong comments from the Opposition.

Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee said that his Kedarnath visit is "absolutely unethical" and complained to EC that it was a violation of poll code.

The EC had been accused of bias toward the ruling party after it cleared six complaints of violation against the PM.

On his meditation, Modi said he was completely cut off from the world inside the specially-created cave, which was furnished with amenities such as power, an attached toilet, a telephone, a CCTV etc. "There was no communication, only a small window through which I could see the temple," he said.

Asserting that the blessings of Lord Shiva would continue to bestow on India as well as the world, the Prime Minister said: "I don't ask for anything from the God. I think, God has made us to give something to the society," he said.

PM Modi's own constituency Varanasi is among the 52 constituencies across India voting in the last round of the marathon national election. The results will be announced on Thursday, May 23.
