Talking about a three-year-old girl child, Sunitha says she was found in a cradle at the doorstep of Niloufer hospital in Hyderabad about three years ago when she was about a month old. She was a HIV positive patient and was put on standard antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Later, the child was adopted by an American couple from Nashville, Tennessee.

In another case, a 11-year-old boy who was shunned by his family when he was just six after medical reports showed he was HIV positive, when a couple based in Washington from a private orphanage adopted him. He flew to the US in May this year.

As many countries offer welfare schemes, the parents believe hat they can take care of the children who needs attention.

Officials say that it takes about less than three months to complete the adoption process for foreign nationals. Once they are adopted officials continue to monitor their status for three years through local adoption agencies.

However, there are 64 children with special needs under the department, who are awaiting a family.
