MIM Unstoppable In Yakutpura, Bahadurpura

MIM’s Mumtaz Ahmed Khan - Sakshi Post

The Yakutpura assembly constituency in the undivided Hyderabad district was represented until the recent dissolution of the House by Mumtaz Ahmed Khan of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) since the 1994 elections. For the December 7 assembly elections, Mumtaz Khan was replaced by Ahmed Pasha Quadri by the party, opposite TRS's Sama Sundar Reddy, Congress's K Rajender Raju, BJP's Charmani Roop Raj and BLF's Majidullah Khan. It is said that in this MIM bastion, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan was battling anti-incumbency and hence, had to be shifted to a safer constituency.

The Congress managed to win from the constituency on just two occasions--1957 and 1962. The MIM, back then, was hardly a political force. With a total voter count of 333,338 and a sizable majority of Muslim population, the constituency is poised for yet another MIM victory. If anything the change of party candidate is expected to better the party’s chances. The TRS and MIM are up for a friendly contest in various constituencies in the old city.

The Bahadurpura assembly constituency in the undivided Hyderabad district was also an MIM fortress since the constituency's inception in 2009. The party's Moazzam Khan secured comfortable victories in 2009 and 2014 with majorities of 56,735 and 95,045 out of the 259,207 votes. His opponents fared poorly on both occasions with vote counts of 11,829 and 8,718. This MIM stronghold is likely to stay with the party.

The TDP replaced its 2014 candidate Rehman with the people's front's Kalem Baba while Inayat Ali of the TRS will have a friendly contest with MIM. BJP's Hanif Ali and BLF's Ajid Ali could have little impact in the December 7 polls.
