'Yatra 2' is directed by Mahi V Raghav. Three Autumn Leaves and V Celluloid have produced the movie, which was released today in the Telugu States by UV Creations.

Story:

Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy (Mammootty) dies in a helicopter crash in 2009. About 150 MLAs of the Progress Party want his son, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (Jiiva), to be anointed as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Sonia Gandhi (Suzanne Bernert), the leader of the Progress Party, underestimates the popularity of Jagan and picks someone else to lead the State. Jagan accepts the decision of the Party's High Command. He embarks on the Odarpu Yatra to console the family members mourning the shock deaths of their relatives post the demise of YSR. The High Command orders him to suspend the Yatra. Jagan opposes and faces legal harassment. What happens later is history. That's what 'Yatra 2' shows in a dramatic, honest way.

Performances:

Jiiva is awesome. His strength is his ability to ape Jagan's mannerisms and body language. Mammootty as YSR is excellent. His scenes with Jiiva are a plus. The film doesn't belong to any other performer other than the Jiiva-Mammootty duo. They both enjoy playing the roles of two political stalwarts who live under one roof. Their performances in their combination scenes are so nice.

Suzanne Bernert is seen as Sonia. She gets to do many scenes. Sachin Khedekar and Mahesh Manjrekar are seen as Sonia's aide and Chandrababu Naidu, respectively. Ketaki Narayan as YS Bharathi is also seen.

Merits:

Excellent political points have been raised by the film.
Jagan's commitment, sincerity and love for his father have been shown touchingly.
Director Mahi V Raghav never shows any propaganda scenes.
There are no scenes that deviate from the central focus of the film.
Santhosh Narayanan's background score is sharp.
Madhie's cinematography and Selva Kumar's art direction are excellent.

Analysis:

Jagan's YSRCP saw a meteoric rise in the field of politics. Political analysts were stunned by how the party rode to power with a landslide in 2019 despite being a young outfit. In 2012, the young party swept the by-elections to 18 seats. When it won 15 seats and decimated the TDP, analysts realized that Jagan was going to be the biggest political force one day.

Jagan's allegiance to ethics and his urge to steer clear of making fake promises to people cost him the 2014 election. That phase has been shown in the film.

Political machinations, power plays and unholy alliances were used against YSRCP. Yet, nobody could stop the rise of Jagan. Director Mahi V Raghav ensures that the drama is not compromised in the name of depicting the truth. Nowhere does the film feel dry.

Verdict:

'Yatra 2' is an excellent political film with human emotions at its core. You will love to see the inner personality of Jagan in this film.
