Jaya Prada Vows To Defeat Azam Khan After ‘Abusive’ Remarks

New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician and BJP candidate Jaya Prada on Monday strongly reacted against Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan's 'derogatory' remarks during an election rally in Rampur.

In a video that has been doing the rounds on social media, Khan is seen addressing a poll campaign rally at Rampur and without naming the actor, he is seen making the 'underwear jibe' against the actor.

"... you got represented (by her) for 10 years. People of Rampur, people of Uttar Pradesh and people of India, it took you 17 years to understand her reality. But, I could recognize it in 17 days that she wears a khaki underwear,” Khan is heard saying.

Taking strong objection to the comments, Jaya said, "Azam Khan has crossed all limits. People will not forgive him. I vow to defeat him in Lok Sabha election."

The actor further said that he made such abusive comments when she was in his party in 2009 and that no one came to support her. Jaya Prada had won the Rampur Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and 2009 on a SP ticket, but was later expelled for alleged anti-party activities in 2010. She joined the BJP last month.

"It isn't new for me, you might remember that I was a candidate from his party in 2009 when no one supported me after he made comments against me. I am a woman and I can't even repeat what he said. I don't know what I did to him that he is saying such things," she said.

"He shouldn't be allowed to contest elections. Because if this man wins, what will happen to democracy? There'll be no place for women in society. Where will we go? Should I die, then you'll be satisfied? You think that I'll get scared and leave Rampur? But I won't leave," the actor added.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women said the alleged remarks made by him were "offensive, unethical and show disrespect towards dignity of women” and has issued a show cause notice to Khan. The NCW also said that they would be requesting the Election Commission to bar him from contesting elections.

Rampur goes on polls on April 23 in the third phase of the elections.
