YS Jagan Outlines Roadmap To Good Governance 

In signing the first file enhancing pensions of the elderly and the disabled after his oath-taking ceremony on Thursday, the new chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy gave a clear pointer to the direction in which the state would move in the next few years. Pensions for the aged were increased from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,250 and will be increased incrementally each year to Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 2,750 to Rs. 3,000 under YSR Pension Kanuka Scheme. The physically disabled will get a a pension of Rs 3000, while those suffering from kidney ailments will be given Rs 10,000. At the same time, the old age pension eligibility age limit has been reduced from 65 to 60 years.

Welfare governance would be prioritised as he had spelt out clearly during his 14 month long Padayatra covering 3,648 km through the state. Importantly, he said that within six months to one year, the system would be overhauled thoroughly to ensure corruption-free governance in Andhra Pradesh.

YS Jagan‘s emphasis on cleansing the system and bringing transparency in governance was one of the highlights of his speech after being sworn in as Chief Minister. He revealed his intention to go in for a process of reverse tendering him in the award of contracts and pointed to rampant corruption in this respect which the TDP government had indiscriminately indulged in. The chief minister asserted that a High Court judge would review these contracts to ensure fairness and transparency.

The YSRCP government’s focus would be to ensure that all welfare schemes percolate to the last man standing, or the poorest man in the state. Welfare governance would be based on Navaratnalu covering all segments of society, YS Jagan stated, adding that his government would fulfil all the promises which had been made. The responsibility, as he stated is enormous and the YSRCP chief would work for the people with the manifesto as his life-breath.

YS Jagan is fortunate in that he enjoys a good rapport with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, KCR said that the Telangana government would work harmoniously with the new government to solve pending issues including utilisation of Godavari waters to the last drop. The bonhomie between the two chief ministers was evident at the function. Together, the states could attain great heights of prosperity and success, as KCR remarked.
