Farmers' Protest Triggers Bharat Bandh in Several Parts, Delhi-UP Traffic Hit

A Bharat Bandh was called by the farmers' organization, today (Sept 27). This comes as an extension to their protest that has been on since last year. The farmers from all over India have been protesting against the three farm laws. They believe that these laws will give full control to private firms. Due to the Bandh, there is a traffic jam on roads and several trains were canceled as well.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) will be leading today's protest from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The group has stated that movement on some stretches of national highways will be restricted. The Delhi-Meerut Expressway was closed near the Ghazipur protest site this morning, disrupting traffic from Uttar Pradesh. 

Also, Delhi borders were jammed. The Gurgaon and Noida borders in particular are under police surveillance. All the vehicles coming from the border side are being checked by the police and jawans.

The border between Punjab and Haryana was jammed too. The Haryana Police gave prior intimation to the people, that they can expect traffic. The state police spokesperson said that “as part of the Bharat Bandh, the protestors may also sit on roads on a dharna. This will block the roads and highways for some time.”

SKM, the umbrella body of over 40 farm unions urged everyone from all parts of the country to join the protest. Many state governments are supporting the protest. The farm body also requested everyone to come in peace and ensure a non-violent Bandh today. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha appealed to all the organization workers, businessmen, traders, youth, and even students to extend their support to the farmers.

Many political parties are also taking part in the Bandh. Congress asked all its workers and leaders to take part. Party workers are expected to extend full support. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati said that the party will be supporting this Bandh.
