Konaseema: Secretariat Staff Pay Pension To Woman From Own Pockets For 18 Months

Konaseema: Secretariat Staff Pay Pension To Woman From Own Pockets For 18 Months - Sakshi Post

KONASEEMA: The Andhra Pradesh state government has commenced the distribution of social security pensions to the beneficiaries in the State which is done by the Village/Ward Volunteers. As part of this, an interesting episode highlighting the good Samaritan nature of the Secretariat employees came to light at Mandapeta in Konaseema district in the State.

As per a report in Sakshi, the Secretariat employees of the 3rd Ward at Mandapeta have been paying a pension amount of Rs 2000 to a poor woman named P Rajamma from their own salaries for the past one and a half years. Rajamma who applied for the social security pension was rejected on the ground of being underage and was left in a hapless situation.  Administration Secretary G Srisathya Haritha tried to see that she gets eligibility. but failed. They tried to seek the help of Kakinada DRDA officials, but that was also rejected on technical grounds.

Seeing her plight and that Rajamma had no financial support, the Secretariat employees Sathya Haritha, Welfare Secretary Ganesh, and a constable named Vijayalakshmi decided to pool their own money from their salaries and paid her Rs 2,000 every month for the past 18 months.

This year Rajamma after the verification procedure was declared eligible for the YSR Pension Kanuka scheme in August. The secretariat employees handed over a pension amount of Rs 2,500 to Rajamma, much to her joy. A beaming Rajamma went home happily but not before expressing her gratitude and thanking the three Secretariat employees for supporting her these past 18 months.
