Telangana Heatwave Alert: Orange Alert Issued for 6 Districts, Yellow Alert for 27

Telangana is experiencing a sharp rise in temperatures as intense summer heat grips several parts of the state. The heat has already begun to affect daily life, with meteorological officials warning that temperatures in at least six districts could cross the 40°C mark today. In response to the extreme weather conditions, authorities have issued an Orange Alert for these districts, while Yellow Alerts have been announced for 27 others. Residents have been urged to remain cautious and take necessary precautions during the ongoing heatwave.

The scorching summer conditions have arrived earlier than usual this year. Normally, the intensity of the heat begins to increase during the third week of March. However, this year the temperatures have started climbing rapidly since the second week of February, leaving people struggling with the unusually hot weather.

On Thursday, March 5, the highest temperature of the season so far was recorded in Mangapet of Mulugu district, where the mercury touched 39°C. Similarly, temperatures of around 38.9°C were reported in Adilabad Urban, Dharmapuri, and Khammam Urban areas. Officials also stated that at least 14 districts recorded temperatures above 38.5°C.

According to weather department officials, many regions in the state have recorded temperatures about 2.2°C higher than normal over the past two days. The rising heat has raised concerns about the possibility of even higher temperatures in the coming days.

Meteorologists have warned that six districts — Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Mulugu — are likely to experience temperatures exceeding 40°C today. Because of this, an Orange Alert has been issued for these areas. Meanwhile, the remaining 27 districts have been placed under a Yellow Alert.

In addition, districts such as Mahabubabad, Jogulamba Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Mancherial, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, and Jagtial could see temperatures rising up to 39.5°C, according to officials. Weather experts also predict that temperatures in many districts may remain 1 to 1.5°C above normal throughout this week.

Historical weather data shows that the highest temperatures recorded before March 20 in the last decade occurred on March 18, 2022, when Nalgonda registered 43.5°C and Bhadrachalam recorded 42.8°C.

Experts explained that the current heatwave conditions are mainly due to hot winds blowing from northern parts of India toward Telangana. The low moisture levels in the air are also contributing to the rapid rise in temperatures across the region.

Weather department officials have advised people to take proper precautions to protect themselves from the intense heat. Residents have been urged to avoid stepping out during the afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary. To prevent dehydration, people should drink plenty of water, fruit juices, and consume light meals.

Special care has been advised for vulnerable groups such as elderly people, children, pregnant women, and those suffering from health issues, as they are more likely to be affected by heatstroke. Officials recommend staying indoors in cool environments as much as possible to avoid health risks caused by the extreme heat.
