Nalgonda Road, A Deathtrap For Tollywood Artistes?

Nalgonda: The Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway that passes through the district is turning out to be a real deathtrap for travelers. If not for the fault of the drivers, the engineering errors in the busy stretch have a lot to do with the rising number of casualties. Since 2015, the deathtrap highway claimed the lives of over 1,200 people.

With the tragic death of former MP Nandamuri Harikrishna near Addanki in the district, it is high time that the authorities take measures to minimize the number of accidents.

Here's list of notable persons who have met with accidents on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway:

In 2006, then ZP Chairman Prasanna and her husband Ratnakar died in a road accident on the outskirts of Peddakaparthi in Chityala Mandal.

In 2007, Telugu actress Prathyusha died after her car met with an accident on the outskirts of Kattangur.

In 2008, the then minister of Power, Kothapalli Subbarayudu, suffered injuries after his car lost control near Chityala.

In 2009, actor Nani suffered slight injuries in an accident near Veliminedu in Chityala Mandal, when he was travelling to Hyderabad from Vijayawada.

In 2009, Tollywood actors Jr NTR and Rajiv Kanakala were injured after their car lost control near Mothe in the district.

In 2013, industrialist Gutha Jithender Reddy suffered injuries after his car overturned near Chityala.

In 2014, Tollywood actor Janaki Ram died after his car collided with a tractor near Akupamula in the district.

In 2014, Telugu Desam Party leader Laljaan Basha lost his life in a road accident near Kamineni Junction in the outskirts of Narketpally

In 2015, popular singer Shravana Bharghavi suffered injuries after her car overturned following collision with the divider.

In 2016, the then Students Islamic Movement of India national president Masood died on the spot after his car overturned following collision with the divider.

In 2017, Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader Dubbaka Satish Reddy died in an accident that involved collision of his car with a truck on Narketpally flyover.

On August 29, 2018, TDP Leader, actor and former MP Nandamuri Harikrishna died in a tragic accident near Addanki in Nalgonda district on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway.

The Superintendent of Police, A. V. Ranganath said that they had identified accident-prone spots along the highway. He himself had shared a power point presentation with the district collector and others at a meeting recently.
