Prabhas–Prasanth Varma’s Mythological Film Baka Shelved

Speculation had been rife in film circles that pan-India star Prabhas and director Prasanth Varma were set to collaborate on an ambitious mythological project. The film, tentatively titled Baka, was expected to feature Prabhas in the powerful role of Bakasura, with leading production banner Mythri Movie Makers backing the venture.

According to industry buzz, a test shoot involving Prabhas was conducted a few months ago as part of the project’s early development. However, fresh reports now suggest that the film may not move forward. Sources indicate that Prabhas was reportedly not entirely convinced after the test shoot and is believed to have opted out of the project.

If confirmed, this would mark the third consecutive instance of a Prasanth Varma project being shelved before production could begin following the success of Hanu-Man. Earlier, projects such as Brahma Rakshasa, reportedly planned with Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, and the proposed debut film of Nandamuri Mokshagna also did not materialize as expected.

Prasanth Varma’s last directorial venture, Hanu-Man, released on January 12, 2024, emerged as a major success and established him as a notable filmmaker in the mythological superhero genre. His next directorial is now expected to commence after a gap of over two years, with fans and industry observers keenly awaiting an official announcement on his upcoming project.
