CEC’S Transfer Of IPS Officers In AP: HC Reserves Verdict - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court heard arguments related to the transfer of DG intelligence AB Venkateswara Rao and two other IPS officers, SP of Srikakulam Venkataratnam and SP of YSR Kadapa district, Rahul Dev Sharma, by the Central Election Commission.

The Election Commission argued before the court that the AP government had no locus stand in the case. The Chandrababu government was not eligible to file a case against the Election Commission which was a constitutional body when it comes to the conduct of elections, it pointed out.

The Election Commission also pointed out that the name of the officer in question, DG intelligence, AB Venkateswara Rao, featured in the list submitted by the state government to the CEC earlier. To this, counsel for the AP government stated that his name figured by mistake.

It may be recalled that after the Central Election commission transferred 3 IPS officers in the state, the AP government went to court over the matter. Earlier, it issued a GO keeping the Intelligence chief beyond the purview of the Election Commission.

The high court which heard the arguments throughout the day reserved its judgement.
