Bank Holidays November 17-23: Will Banks Be Closed This Week? Full State-Wise List

 - Sakshi Post

Banks across India will remain closed for two days between November 17 and November 23, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday calendar. This week, the first holiday falls on Saturday, November 22, followed by Sunday, November 23, marking the usual weekly offs for all banks. Other than these two days, banks are expected to function normally throughout the week.

Bank Holiday Schedule

As per the RBI’s guidelines, all private and public sector banks across the country remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, along with Sundays. Therefore, November 22, being the fourth Saturday, will be a non-working day for banks.

It’s important to note that bank holidays in India often vary from state to state, depending on regional festivals, religious events, and local celebrations. Apart from the holidays listed by the RBI, individual states may declare additional holidays as per their traditions and government notifications.

So far, banks across various states have already remained closed for six days in November due to local festivals and regional observances.

Recent RBI-Designated Holiday

The most recent bank holiday declared by the RBI was on Saturday, November 15, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, to mark the Birsa Munda Birth Anniversary and the State Formation Day. This year’s observance was significant, as Jharkhand celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the Silver Jubilee of the state’s foundation. Jharkhand was carved out of southern Bihar in 2000, becoming India’s 28th state.

No More Bank Holidays in November

According to the RBI’s official calendar, there are no additional bank holidays for the rest of November, apart from the regular Sundays. The next scheduled holiday will be in December, as per the upcoming monthly schedule.

Services Available During Bank Holidays

Even though physical bank branches will remain closed, most digital and online banking services will continue to function as usual. Customers can access essential banking features through:

  • Net banking and mobile apps for fund transfers and account management
  • UPI for instant transactions
  • ATMs, which remain operational for cash withdrawals
  • Credit/debit card services, which continue uninterrupted

Customers can also submit NEFT/RTGS forms, chequebook requests, and demand draft applications digitally. Services like account maintenance, locker applications, and standing instructions can be managed online or scheduled for the next working day.

RBI and the Negotiable Instruments Act

All annual bank holidays are listed by the Reserve Bank of India under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which governs instruments like cheques and promissory notes. Transactions involving these instruments are paused during holidays.

In summary, banks will observe their next closures on November 22 and 23, with regular services resuming from Monday, November 24. Customers are advised to plan their in-branch transactions accordingly and rely on digital channels for uninterrupted access to banking facilities.
