AP Police Suspect Third Vehicle in Kurnool Bus Fire Accident That Killed 19

The Andhra Pradesh Police are probing the possible involvement of a third vehicle in the tragic bus fire accident that claimed 19 lives in Kurnool district on October 24.

The incident occurred in the early hours near Chinna Tekuru village, when a Bengaluru-bound sleeper bus belonging to Kaveri Travels ran over a motorbike that had already met with an accident. The motorcycle got trapped under the bus, and as it was dragged along, its fuel tank cap opened, leading to a massive fire that engulfed the bus.

There were 44 passengers on board at the time, and while several managed to escape, 19 people lost their lives in the blaze.

According to the police, skid marks from the bus were found slightly ahead of the spot where the two-wheeler had initially fallen, killing its rider on the spot. This suggests that the bike had moved further after the first impact, raising suspicion of another vehicle’s involvement.

“The difference in the skid mark position of the bike indicates that another vehicle could have hit it before the bus ran over it,” said Kurnool District Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil, speaking to PTI.

The police have launched an investigation to verify whether a third vehicle was indeed involved in the sequence of accidents that led to the deadly fire.

Authorities are continuing to collect evidence and examine CCTV footage from the area to piece together the chain of events behind one of the deadliest road accidents in recent times in Andhra Pradesh.
