TDP Government Leaves Behind A Staggering Debt Of Rs. 2,49,435 Crore

New Delhi: Central Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman revealed that the Andhra Pradesh state debt was at a staggering Rs 2,49,435 Crore, as per the financial year 2018-19.

Responding to Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao's questions during the Question hour in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, these details were made known to the public.

Elaborating further, she said that by the end of March 2015 the state debt was at Rs 1,48,743 Crore. By the end of the year 2017 there was a 35 percent increase in the debt which amounted to Rs 2,01,314 Crore .

In excess of the Monetary liability and the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM), the State under the Uday Scheme was granted a loan of Rs 8,256 Crore by the Centre.

By the end of the 2016-17 financial year the debt was at 2,01,314 Crore and the interest payments was around Rs 14,756 Crore, she said.

By the end of 2018-19 financial year the state debt had reached Rs 2,49,435 Crore and the interest payments were at RS 15,077 Crore.

The Finance Minister also explained that under the State Reorganisation Act -2014, the state was granted Rs 7,891 Crore in three years.

In response to YSRCP MP Vemireddy Prabahakar Reddy's question, Central Minister of Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel revealed that the Centre had granted Rs 59.70 Crore under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme for the Coastal Circuit Development Project in Nellore district.

Under this project Pulicat Lake, Ubbalamadugu Waterfall, Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary, Kotha Koduru beach, Mypadu beach, Ramatheertham, Isakapalli in Nellore district were to be developed as theme-based tourist destinations. The Swadesh Darshan Scheme was designed so that the tourism sector becomes a major engine for job creation and economic growth in the coastal areas in India. Seventy five percent of these works were completed in the areas, he said.
