PM Narendra Modi‘s speech in the Rajya Sabha evoked a lot of interest across the country, but stood out for one prominent gaffe. A couplet he attributed to the celebrated Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib, was not indeed one from the great poet’s work. Addressing Congress Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, PM Modi asked him to look at the country through the lens of development instead of political prejudice and thought he was quoting from Ghalib when he said:

ta umr Ghalib ye bhool karta raha,dhool chehre pe thi aur aaina saaf karta raha'," he said.

However, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar, among others pointed out on social media pointed out that the couplet was not from Ghalib’s Dewan or anthology. Here’s Javed Akhtar’s tweet:
