Woman Dies After Concrete Block Falls On Her Head At Ameerpet Metro Station

Hyderabad: A shelter from rain turned tragic for a woman after chunks of concrete slab in Ameerpet Metro station fell on her head in Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon leading to her death.


The woman has been identified as 24-year-old Mounika, a homemaker from Kukatpally and native of Mancherial district, police said. She was standing in the pedestrian zone when a portion of surface wall collapsed on her from a height of about nine meters, eyewitnesses said.


She later succumed to severe head injuries, police said.


"As it was raining heavily, Mounika and her sister took shelter at the pedestrian area adjacent to the Metro station staircase. Pieces of the wall surface peeled off from the structure and fell on the woman. She sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to a hospital where she died,” Thirupattana, ACP Punjagutta, said to a daily.


According to reports, the deceased Mounika was the wife of a TCS employee Harikanth. They were married a year ago. Since Harinath was working in Hyderabad, the couple lived in Kukatpally.

She and her cousin who recently completed her graduation and was in search of hostel for higher studies had travelled from Kukatpally to Ameerpet in Metro train.

Following the incident, local civil police and traffic police were placed at the Ameerpet metro station in view of the situation. Metro train services continue to operate without any hitch.

“Based on further investigation we will alter the sections of the case,” the ACP said to the daily. The SR Nagar police registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC.

According to reports, Metro Rail authorities also asked L&T to pay adequate compensation to Mounika’s family.
