Hyderabad’s Historic Charminar Suffers Damage As Chunk Of Pillar Falls

A part of Charminar’s pillars fell down - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: One of the oldest monuments in Hyderabad, Charminar has suffered a minor blow after a part of its pillars fell down on Wednesday night.

According to the officials, a part of one of the Southwest Minarets of the monument fell down after unseasonal rains hit the Old city. The incident raised concerns regarding the stability of the 428-year-old structure. The area where the debris fell off was cordoned off by the police after people gathered at Charminar. Tourists visiting the popular structure were left in panic after the chunk of concrete fell down.

With the monument's lime plasters peeling off and the minarets developing cracks in the past, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had undertaken restoration work on the monument.

In the wake of the recent incident, the ASI authorities have been informed and are expected to work on the conservation works shortly. The Archaeological Department officials are investigating the matter further.
