NHRC Seeks Report From Telangana Govt Over Inter Results

National Human Rights Commission - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: In the wake of more-than-20 student suicides in Telangana, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the state government on Friday seeking a detailed report on the large-scale irregularities by the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) which resulted in 3.5 lakh students being failed.

The Commission issued the notice to Chief Secretary Shailendra Kumar Joshi seeking a report regarding the action taken against the people involved along with the relief offered to the aggrieved families to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

Observing that the issue has triggered a uproar in the state with students and parents launching protests, the NRC has stated that a detailed report on the issue should be submitted within four weeks.

Initially, the State Education Ministry, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Examinations (TSBIE) and the government dismissed the allegations after media reports indicated that hundreds of students failed to get even pass marks. However, owing to the intensifying protests and the students approaching the High Court, the Intermediate Board accepted its lapses.
