Hyderabad Cops Recall Funny, Interesting Stories Of Drunk Drivers
Hyderabad: In spite of 40,000 motorists being booked in drunk and driving and 21,000 convicted in one year, the Hyderabad traffic police have noticed no change in the attitude of motorists in following the traffic rules. The traffic police of the three commissionerates have observed a steep rise is in drunk and driving cases.
In addition to this, the people who caught were creating more troubles to the traffic police during the enforcement. According to reports, a few incidents have been noticed in the last three days in the city of Hyderabad. The drunk motorist create a nuisance on the roads when the police tried to conduct breathalyser checks.
Two days ago, when the traffic police wanted to conduct BAC (Blood Alcohol Test) on two women who were caught driving drunk, they got into an argument and refused to cooperate for a test. On Thursday, an actor and his girlfriend were caught in drunk and driving case at Madhapur but they created a ruckus and caused a road accident in a state of inebriation.
In a similar incident on Saturday night at Banjara Hills, a few women got into an altercation with the police when the latter were carrying out drunk and driving checks. 536 mg/100 ml of BAC was recorded on a woman driver which is the highest dose. In the month of August, a man broke his leg when he tried to escape from the cops.
K Naveen Kumar, Jubilee Hills traffic inspector recollected an incident from last week "There were some drunk motorists who behaved funny and a few others who became really angry. At Jubilee Hills, a motorist who was caught was asking us to spell the words like constitution, government. In some incidents, the drunk motorists fight with the police when they asked to use breathalyser."
Replying to a question, Naveen said "The police personnel are trained to handle drunk drivers before their posting. They have to participate in a one-week training which will teach them about behaviour and psychology of drunk drivers and the methods to handle them."
In the city of Hyderabad, 23,054 drunk drivers have been caught while in 2017, 20,811 cases were booked. 3,333 people were convicted out of 12,736 drunk drivers till October this year. According to Rachakonda commissionerate, 5,210 cases were booked of which 697 people were convicted this year.
