Telangana Elections: Common Man Jumps Into The Fray

Hyderabad/Secunderabad: Meet the new underdogs of the Telangana Assembly elections 2018! A. Sathi Reddy, who is the President , Telangana Auto Drivers Samaikya and Mukkawar Sunil, who is the president of Telangana Cabs Association. They both plan to contest the Assembly elections from Secunderabad and Qutubullapur constituencies respectively as independent candidates.

And why do they want to enter the fray and fight the elections? They feel the state government has done nothing for the welfare of the drivers despite making several pleas to improve their conditions and since they are heading these associations they know the problems of their colleagues and also want to become a voice for the taxi and auto drivers’ welfare.

He is contesting for the second time from Secunderabad and the agenda is to uplift the autorickshaw drivers community and reach out to them and serve them. He stressed that apart from introducing welfare measures for drivers, he would focus on improving facilities in Secunderabad constituency.

One of the major initiatives he brought in recently was the proposal for the amendment to the Central Motor Vehicle Act that mandates that one should at least pass Class VIII to apply for a driving license for a transport vehicle.

Driving autos is a lucrative option in Hyderabad for those who are less educated or illiterate or those who come to the city in search of livelihood. Since many of them don’t have Class VIII-level education and are rendered ineligible to drive autos. He wrote a letter to the PM asking for relaxation in the rule in Telangana as it would greatly help these youth. For that he received letter, from the office of the minister of transport, highways and shipping, informing him that his letter has been sent to the joint secretary for “necessary action”.

Mukkawar Sunil: Pesident of Telangana Cabs Association

Sunil is reportedly planning to contest the upcoming Telangana Assembly Elections from the Quthbullapur constituency. Sunil has promised to develop Telangana with its own cab aggregator service and fight the monopoly of cab aggregators like Ola and Uber, which will provide a fair charge of Rs 18 per km. If voted he also plans to develop and run a state run app for this aggregator in accordance with the RTA rules. “I will try to bring an Act for the welfare of cab drivers. We don’t even have a welfare board till now,” he added. Apart from this, vhe also plans to address the pollution issue in his constituency if voted to power. Sunil has already received the support of several taxi unions for his election.

They plan to file their nominations independently once the notification comes and have no intention of believing any political party whether it’s the TRS or any other party, as they feel they come to support them only during election times but not in times of need.
