Mahakutami Threat To TRS Candidate In Komaram Bheem Asifabad?

Kova Laxmi - Sakshi Post

Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district which was created out of erstwhile Adilabad district, neighbours Maharashtra. For centuries, it has been the capital of native Gond tribals.

Konda Lakshman Bapuji, a freedom fighter and one of the spearheads of the Telangana movement hailed from here.

Asifabad is a part of the Adilabad Lok Sabha constituency and the legislator representing Asifabad (ST Reserved) constituency in the previous assembly is Kova Laxmi of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. Laxmi has a bit of a challenge on her hands this time.

The voter turnout with 1,76,615 in 2014 was close to 78% and is expected to remain high this time around as well.

The Sirpur constituency in the same district was created in 1952. Koneru Konappa won the Sirpur assembly seat on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket. However, he later joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). He now faces a strong challenge, with local rebel TRS politicians including former MLA Kaveti Sammaiah playing spoiler. Moreover, the Mahakutami or Grand Alliance will be an added factor to contend with. In 2014, Raavi Srinivas Rao of the TDP had polled just under 20,000 votes, a figure which could tip the scales, in a closely-fought contest. Konappa is largely seen as an earthy politician with a grassroot connect.
