Maoists’ Threat Hangs Over 13 Constituencies in Telangana

Hyderabad: The State police of Telangana have submitted a report to the Election Commission on Tuesday stating that there could be a possible disturbance by the Maoists in the coming Assembly Elections in 13 assembly constituencies. Notices have been given to the DGPs of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in connection with the issue of Andhra Pradesh intelligence officials caught at Jagitial. Necessary action will be taken in the issue,” said the Chief Electoral Officer Mr Rajat Kumar.

He also said that they have received a report from the Director General of Police with regard to the polling stations and that the polling should be completed by 4 pm.The CEO asserted that the district collectors, district election officers and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner will take action against those causing disturbances and obstruction to any public election meeting.

Several complaints have been received about the disturbance of public meetings. Causing obstruction to public meetings might lead to arrests by a police officer without any warrant. The arrested will be liable for punishment up to six months or with a fine up to Rs 2,000 or both. The DEOs may also invoke other relevant rules and provisions of IPC and CrPC and other provisions, to see that political meetings are held peacefully in the period leading up to the polls, he said.
