HYDERABAD: A 20-year-old pregnant woman from Medchal who was tested positive for coronavirus gave birth to two female babies on Tuesday evening here at Gandhi Hospital.

According to reports, the woman who was battling with the virus had undergone caesarean section successfull. The condition of both mother and twin girls is said to be safe.

The twins weighing 2.5 kilograms and 2 kilograms each are in excellent health condition. However, swab samples were collected from both the babies to test for presence of COVID-19 and the results are expected on Wednesday, reports said.

Reportedly, the pregnant woman was earlier admitted to Niloufer Hospital, had tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday and was asymptomatic patient. She hails from a containment area of Medchal which is under Red zone. This was the reason why doctors at Niloufer Hospital decided to conduct COVID-19 test.

Later, on being diagnosed with the virus she was immediately shifted to Gandhi Hospital where doctors decided to conduct the cesarean section on the same evening.

Speaking to media, Gandhi Hospital Superintendent M. Raja Rao said this was the fifth case of a coronavirus positive pregnant woman to have had a delivery at the hospital. He also congratulated the whole team of doctors for successfully performing the c-section.
