Is Telangana Planning Wine Shop Closure on June 2 Formation Day?

 - Sakshi Post

As Telangana gets ready to celebrate its Formation Day on June 2 with grand events, a citizen has requested the government to close all wine shops across the state on that day.

Sanjeev, a resident of Padmarao Nagar, submitted a petition at Praja Bhavan to Chinna Reddy, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board. He urged the government to declare June 2 as a dry day in honor of the sacrifices made during the Telangana movement.

“Many people gave up their lives for the formation of Telangana. We should honor their sacrifices by celebrating the day with respect and dignity,” Sanjeev said in his request. He believes closing liquor shops for a day will send a positive message and encourage people to participate in the celebrations in a meaningful way.

According to Sanjeev, Chinna Reddy responded positively and assured him that the request would be considered seriously.

Telangana Formation Day marks the official birth of the state in 2014, after a long struggle. Every year, the day is celebrated with official events, parades, and cultural programs.

Citizens and activists often demand meaningful observances to remember the sacrifices made by people during the movement. Closing wine shops for a day, they say, would be a fitting tribute.
