Hyderabad Traffic Rules Get Tougher: Licence Cancellation for Repeat Violators

In a major move to reduce road accidents across Telangana, the state police department is set to take stringent action against traffic violators by strictly implementing the ‘points system’ for driving offences.

Under this system, drivers who repeatedly violate traffic rules will accumulate penalty points, and once the limit is crossed, their driving licence could be suspended or cancelled.

Although the points system has been in place for a while, officials acknowledged that coordination gaps between the police and transport departments had delayed its effective implementation. Now, both departments are working together to enhance technical coordination for seamless data sharing and prompt action on violations.

Director General of Police (DGP) Shivadhar Reddy recently expressed concern over the growing number of road accidents, pointing out that the fatalities caused by road mishaps are nearly ten times higher than those from murders in Telangana.

He has instructed officials to take all necessary steps to strengthen road safety measures, enforce traffic discipline, and ensure strict adherence to the law without any compromise.

With these renewed efforts, the Telangana Police aim to create safer roads and instill a culture of responsible driving across the state.
