Kuwait Announces Two-Day Public Holiday for National Day and Liberation Day 2026
Kuwait is preparing for a grand celebration of its national pride and historic milestones. During its weekly Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, February 10, the government officially declared Wednesday, February 25, and Thursday, February 26, 2026, as public holidays.
The holidays mark two major occasions — Kuwait’s 65th National Day and the 35th Liberation Day. All ministries, government departments, public institutions, and agencies will suspend operations on these dates.
Since the holidays fall just before the regular Friday–Saturday weekend, public sector employees will enjoy a four-day break. Official work is scheduled to resume on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Holiday Arrangements and Essential Services
Authorities clarified that departments providing essential services or operating under special circumstances will coordinate internally to ensure uninterrupted public services. The decision was announced following the Cabinet session chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah.

Significance of the Celebrations
National Day on February 25 commemorates Kuwait’s independence and the leadership of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. Liberation Day on February 26 marks the country’s liberation in 1991 following the Iraqi invasion.
These twin celebrations are known for vibrant festivities, fireworks displays, parades, and cultural events. The iconic Kuwait Towers often become the centre of dazzling light shows, while citizens and residents participate in the traditional “Maseerah” march, symbolizing unity and patriotism.
Cabinet Decisions Beyond Holidays
Alongside the holiday declaration, the Cabinet approved a draft amendment to Law No. 16 of 2020 concerning protection from domestic violence, strengthening safeguards for families. The government also reviewed the proposed 2026/2027 state budget, presented by Finance Minister Dr. Yaqoub Al-Rifai.
With the long weekend approaching, travel demand and public celebrations are expected to increase as Kuwait embraces both remembrance and progress under its Vision 2035 development goals.
