HYDERABAD: A prominent city doctor allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a  licensed gun on Monday. As per reports in Sakshi, the doctor identified as Dr. Mazharuddin Ali Khan (60), a resident of Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills, was taken to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills after the incident and was declared dead by the doctors there.

Dr. Mazharuddin is the father-in-law of Chandrayanagutta AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi's second daughter. He is a senior orthopedic surgeon and practiced as an orthopedic surgeon at Owaisi hospital in Hyderabad, and had an experience of over three decades. Dr. Mazharuddin is currently working as the Dean of the Orthopedic Department at Owaisi Hospital, while his son Abed Ali Khan is a pediatric surgeon at the same hospital. Abed got married to Asaduddin Owaisi's daughter Yasmin Owaisi on September 22, 2020. While his wife Afia Rasheed Ali Khan, Abed and Yasmin stay in Mazarudin's house, Mazarudin's daughter Zaina Ali Khan lives in America.

Mazaruddin and Afia have been at loggerheads for years due to some financial and family disputes. It is reported that they both had an argument two days ago. Mazharuddin went into his room on Monday morning and locked the door. He is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself above the right ear with his .32 caliber licensed pistol.

The room was completely closed so no one could hear the sound. As Mazharuddin did not come to the hospital till 12 noon, Abed called him. As he did not pick up the phone, he called his family members and inquire about the matter. Around one o'clock, they went and knocked on the door of Mazharuddin's room, but he did not open it, and when they looked through the window, they saw Mazharuddin lying in a pool of blood on the bed.

Immediately, with the help of Mazharuddin's wife and maids, they opened the door and took him to Apollo Hospitals in a car. Doctors who examined him confirmed that he had already died. On receiving the information, the Banjara Hills police team rushed to his residence and the CLUES team was called to check the scene of the crime. The CLUES team collected evidence at the crime scene and found that only one round was fired.

It was found that the bullet came out of Mazaruddin's head and hit the wall. The CLUES team recovered the empty cartridge from his bedroom.

A case of suspicious death was registered and an investigation was conducted. West Zone DCP Joel Davis said that the initial investigation revealed that there was a property dispute between family members, and all aspects were being investigated. A postmortem was conducted at Osmania Hospital and the body was handed over to the family. Heavy security was deployed at the hospital and the media were not allowed inside the premises.
