Govt Renames Mid-Day Meal Scheme To PM Poshan Scheme, To Spend ₹1.31 Lakh Crs In 5 Yrs

The government has renamed the Mid-Day Meal Scheme as the PM Poshan Scheme, with a budget of Rs.1.31 lakh crore over five years.
Mid-Day Meal Scheme: The 'National Scheme for PM Poshan in Schools' has replaced the National Programme for Mid-Day Meal in Schools, also known as the Mid-Day Meal Scheme. The plan will last for five years and will cost Rs.1.31 lakh crore. More than 11.2 lakh kids in government and government-aided schools would receive a mid-day meal under the plan.

Students in pre-primary or Balvatikas at government and government-aided primary schools would be eligible for the programme. These pupils were previously excluded from the programme. Nutritional gardens in schools will also be promoted by the government.
