Stock Market Holiday Today, November 5, for Guru Nanak Jayanti

The Indian stock markets — both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) — will remain closed on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in observance of Gurupurab or Prakash Gurpurab Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Jayanti.

The festival marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. The day is celebrated across the country with prayers, processions, and community service activities (seva).

Trading Holiday

All market segments, including equity, derivatives, and currency, will remain shut on Wednesday. Regular trading will resume on Thursday, November 6, 2025, which will also be the weekly expiry session for the benchmark indices.

Market Performance on November 4

Ahead of the mid-week holiday, domestic markets ended lower on Tuesday following weak global cues and continued foreign fund outflows. The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 519.34 points, or 0.62%, to close at 83,459.15, while the NSE Nifty dropped 165.70 points, or 0.64%, to settle at 25,597.65.

Both indices had opened on a subdued note earlier in the day — with the Sensex dipping 55 points to 83,923.48 and the Nifty slipping 40.95 points to 25,722.40 — before extending losses amid sector-wide selling pressure.

Trading is expected to pick up again on Thursday, as investors shift focus to corporate earnings and global market trends following the holiday break.
