YS Jagan’s Protest Rattles AP Government: Assembly Budget Session Day 1

AP Budget Session Turns Stormy as YS Jagan Takes On AP Government
Governor's Speech Filled With Blatant Falsehoods and Political Propaganda: YSRCP
The Andhra Pradesh Assembly Budget Session began today (February 11, 2026) amid high political drama, as the address by Governor Abdul Nazeer triggered sharp protests from the Opposition. The Governor addressed both Houses on the opening day, but the speech quickly became the centre of controversy, with the YSR Congress Party alleging that it was filled with “blatant falsehoods and political propaganda.”
YSRCP leaders accused the TDP-led coalition government of scripting a misleading speech and making the Governor read out what they termed as “a bundle of lies.” They alleged that the address was nothing more than a document prepared at the behest of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his allies.
YS Jagan Leads Protest at Assembly
YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with party MLAs and MLCs, staged a protest outside the Assembly. Holding placards, they demanded that YSRCP be granted the status of the principal Opposition in the House. The party leaders raised slogans against the coalition, accusing it of deliberately denying Opposition status to silence the strongest voice questioning the government.
YSRCP leaders asserted that the government fears accountability and is avoiding granting Opposition recognition because it does not want tough questions raised on behalf of the people. “We will continue to fight for the people and expose every injustice,” Jagan declared, reiterating that YSRCP would not be intimidated.
Governor’s Speech Faces Disruption
Inside the Assembly, YSRCP members strongly objected to the Governor’s address, alleging that it ignored ground realities in the state. They said law and order has deteriorated, welfare schemes have been diluted, and development has come to a standstill under the coalition regime.
The Opposition also questioned why critical issues were omitted from the speech — including rising debt, alleged attacks on Opposition leaders, and what they described as misinformation regarding the Tirumala laddu issue. They demanded transparency over the state’s reported borrowing of ₹3.2 lakh crore and asked who truly benefited from such massive loans.
YSRCP leaders further alleged that the speech appeared to be a “script from party headquarters,” claiming that the Governor failed to verify whether the claims being read out were factual.
Strong Criticism of Coalition Governance
Launching a scathing attack on the coalition government led by Chandrababu Naidu, YSRCP accused the regime of failing on welfare, employment, women’s empowerment, and farmer support. The party alleged that students are suffering due to non-payment of fee reimbursement, employees are under severe pressure, and pending dues remain unpaid.
The Opposition also accused the government of betraying volunteers and unemployed youth by failing to deliver on promises such as job creation and unemployment allowance. According to YSRCP, the coalition’s governance has pushed Andhra Pradesh to the bottom ranks in national governance indicators.
YSRCP leaders vowed to intensify their fight against what they termed as “anti-people policies” and promised to continue raising public issues both inside and outside the Assembly.
After registering their protest and repeatedly raising slogans, YSRCP members staged a walkout from the House, signalling what is likely to be a stormy Budget Session ahead.
