Cyber Fraudsters Dupe Woman Doctor And Buy Online Gold Vouchers

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad Cybercrime police arrested a five-member gang of fraudsters from Jharkhand, for cheating a woman doctor through phishing text messages here on Wednesday.

According to reports, the arrested persons were identified as Ram Kumar Mandal, Jamruddin Ansari, Jitendra Mandal and Birendar Kumar Mandal from Jharkhand and Rohit Raj from Bihar. Sanjay Kumar Mandal is the prime suspect among all.

According to police, they cheated a woman doctor from Hyderabad of over Rs 5 lakh after sending fraud messages.

According to the complaint filed by the doctor, she received a message on her mobile informing her that her debit card was going to be blocked and it asked her to click on the link sent besides instructing her to enter the KYC details of her bank account.

Believing the message to be genuine, the doctor entered her bank account details including internet banking password and other key details, Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said to a daily.

According to reports, on receiving the credentials, Sanjay Kumar transferred Rs 5.20 lakh amount from her account using Paytm and then purchased online gift vouchers from Tanishq Gold store and shared them with his associates on WhatsApp.

“The gang members redeemed the gift vouchers at the Tanishq Jewellery stores across the country,” officials said to the daily.
