Boxing Coach Guru And His Girl Accomplish A Dream Together

In yet another remake, Victory Venkatesh plays the role of R. Madhavan while Ritika Singh who played the female lead in Tamil played her same role. Nassar plays a crucial role in the film. The music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by KA Sakthivel and edited by Sathish Suriya. Guru got a ‘U’ certificate.

Director Sudha Kongara who wrote the script focused solely on the game and had no other track in the movie. Both Venkatesh and Ritika Singh excelled in their roles and the audience will connect to them immensely. The film totally revolves around the sport and never misses the track which impresses the audience.

Guru is Aditya (Venkatesh) who is a former national boxing player turned coach. He has a painful past where his own men cheated him from accomplishing his goal of winning a gold medal. He later turns a coach and trains the boxers. But, he is a rude, and arrogant person who is unable to tolerate small mistakes and unnecessary politics in boxing academy. Because of this attitude, he gets transferred to Visakhapatnam as the coach for Visakhapatnam boxing academy.

He meets fisherwoman Rameshwari aka Ramulu (Ritika Singh) whose sister Lakshmi aka Lux (Mumtaz Sorcor), is an aspiring boxer and aims for a police job with her 8-year career as a boxer. However, Aditya notices a spark and aggression in the free-spirited Ramulu. He convinces her to take up boxing. But the two don’t get along well due to the master's ruthless training methods and the girl's aggressive nature. Somehow, somewhere, the chemistry works out and they work together to win a gold for India in boxing.

Venkatesh is seen in entirely new look as boxing coach role in the film. He packs a punch with his performance as the arrogant coach and Ritika Singh who is debuting in Tollywood with this film, again impresses with her role as the boxer. Other cast including Nasser, Bharani, Raghu Babu and Mumtaz Sorcor have given their best performance and enthralled the audience.

Ritika Singh is too good. Her complete change from being a vegetable vendor to a boxing champion is inspiring. Thanikella Bharani, Zakir Hussain, Raghu Babu and Anita Chowdary have performed their roles well. Nassar’s character as ‘Punch Ponds’ is entertaining.

Production values of the film are top notch as the boxing set up and seriousness in the film are shown in a stunning way. Dialogues are top notch and the way the film moves ahead with songs in the background is pleasant. Music by Santosh Narayanan is decent and his background score elevates the film to next level.

Highlights of the movie are its cast, story, screenplay, background music, boxing sequences and a great performance by all actors.

However, a few scenes are bit slow giving you some boring moments.

Guru is an entertaining boxing drama with best performances, screenplay, story and background music. It is a must watch film for movie lovers who love good cinema which engages and entertains throughout even those who watched the original; those who did not see it will enjoy Guru in Telugu.
