Stand By Titli Victims In Distress: YS Jagan To Party Leaders, Workers

YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy      - Sakshi Post

Bobbili, Paradi Mandals, Vizianagaram district: Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly and YSRCP president, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy reviewed the relief work being carried out by the YSRCP party in a meeting held last evening with members of the party committees appointed to assess the damage caused by the cyclone and oversee relief operations undertaken by the party.

The YSRCP chief enquired about the damage and losses caused by Cyclone Titli.

YS Jagan was briefed at length on the extent of damage caused by the cyclone and the relief work being done by YSRCP leaders, workers and volunteers. He was also briefed on the failure of government agencies to provide the required help to people of the cyclone-affected areas.

Speaking to members of the two committees specially appointed to provide relief to the cyclone victims and to evaluate the damage caused by cyclone Titli, YS Jagan said that he would soon visit the cyclone-affected villages as part of his mass contact initiative, Praja Sankalpa Yatra and spend 40-50 days there.

YS Jagan added that it was imperative upon YSRCP as a responsible opposition party to redouble its relief efforts, especially considering the fact that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Nara Chandrababu Naidu has neglected relief work completely. Chandrababu has left the cyclone victims to fend for themselves.“We should help the cyclone victims and stand by them,” YS Jagan said.

The YSRCP chief said that though the TDP government had put the figure of damage caused by the cyclone at Rs 3,435 crores, it was clear that the money would not reach the victims. When the YSRCP comes to power, it will ensure that every single paisa reaches the needy victims, he said.

YSRCP leaders and members of the committees apprised YS Jagan of the scale and magnitude of the devastation caused by the cyclone. They said that cashew, banana, coconut and jack fruit crops in the cyclone hit areas have been destroyed. They pointed out that it takes 4 to 5 years for a cashew plant, and 8 to 10 years for a coconut tree to bear fruit. They also told him that Ichapuram, Palasa, Patapatnam, Palakonda, Rajam and Tekkali constituencies of Srikakulam district were the worst hit.

The YSRCP leaders informed YS Jagan that government relief had not reached the victims and that even the most essential requirement like water had not reached the cyclone-hit villages. 28 mandals were badly impacted in this manner, they pointed out and said that the government failed to bring in water tankers from neighbouring districts to alleviate the needs of the local villagers.

They added that essential commodities like rice, oil and pulses had not reached many of the villages which were reeling from a major crisis. The government had so far supplied only Rs.200 worth essential commodities, they pointed out.

The TDP government was busy in unleashing a propaganda campaign about its relief, while in reality, it was doing precious little. Instead, it indulged in mudslinging trying to portray villagers who protested against denial of relief, as people incited by YSRCP, they said. The Chandrababu Naidu government shirked responsibility and was blaming the Centre, they pointed out.

The YSRCP chief stressed upon the need to pressurise government agencies to step up relief efforts and ensure that help reaches the victims. He also emphasised the need to help the cyclone victims in every possible way in this hour of need.

Among leaders who were present at the meeting were Ummareddi Venkateswarulu, Dharmana Prasada Rao, Botsa Satyanarayana, Parthasarathi, Thammineni Seetharam, Mopidevi Venkataramana, Dharmana Krishna Das, Reddy Shanti, MLA Kalavathi, MLA Kambala Jogulu and others.
