Third President of India Dr Zakir Husain Hailed From Telangana

Dr Zakir Husain was the third President of India during the Indira Gandhi regime. He succeeded S Radhakrishnan.
Husain has its roots in Telangana's Hyderabad where he was born into a Pashtun family of the Afridi tribe. However, he spent his growing up years in Kaimganj. He graduated from Aligarh Muslim University and earned a doctorate from University of Berlin.
He was closely involved with India's struggle against British for freedom. He also proposed several educational reforms after drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi's valued based education ideals. He was the Vice Chancellor of AMU after he was considered one of the most prominent educational thinks and practitioners of Modern India. Husain was elected President of India on 13 May 1967. In his inaugural speech, he said that the whole of India was his home and all its people were his family. Dr Zakir Husain was the first President to die in office.
