Ganga Harathi Comes To Hussain Sagar

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Government has decided to perform the 'Ganga Harathi' in the Hussain Sagar lake during the Ganesh festival season. This would be the first time such an event would be conducted in the man-made lake in Hyderabad city. The 'Ganga Harthi' would be held at Tank Bund to mark the beginning of the festivities and the program schedule would be announced later.

A review meeting was held at Secretariat on Friday by Ministers Mahmood Ali, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Ch Malla Reddy, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan with senior officials of various departments regarding Ganesh festival arrangements this year.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Home Minister Mahmood Ali said that this year Ganesh festival would be held from September 2 to 12 across the State. Pointing out the fact that Hyderabad was popular across the country for celebrating the festival on a grand note, Mahmood Ali said that they would be having this ritual as a unique fest this year.

They would first review the arrangements being made for the festival with officials and members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, he said.

Meanwhile to reduce the burden on Hussain Sagar lake, where thousands of Ganesh idols' are immersed, this time the GHMC had taken up construction of 28 water ponds. The ponds can handle 5000 idols which can be immersed in each pond and prevent pollution of the man-made historical lake which takes a beating every year with Ganesh Visarjan ritual.
