Telangana In One-Of-Its-Kind Initiative Launches Eco-Friendly Stalls For Street Vendors

Eco-friendly kiosks for street vendors in Sircilla - Sakshi Post

Sircilla: In a one-of-its-kind initiative, Telangana’s Sircilla district launched eco-friendly kiosks for street vendors using recycled plastic. The district is the first municipality to achieve the feat. With a motive to promote sustainability and green practices in the town, these stalls have been using approximately 33,000 kgs of recycled plastic waste. Each eco-friendly kiosk is of 8x8 ft size and has been built with almost 600 kgs of plastic waste.

The street vendors endure a lot of inconvenience on the congested footpaths in the cities. Now, these stalls will bring in a productive environment for the street vendors, which is what the project aims for.

The Urban Street Vendors Project was taken up to provide a supportive environment for vendors to earn a livelihood. TRS working president and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao inaugurated this facility earlier this week.

The project was completed within a span of three months and the Civic Body is making plans to build another 43 kiosks in Siddipet district. The average cost of building a single kiosk has been estimated at roughly over Rs 1 lakh but the street vendors have been provided the kiosks, free of cost with no inclusion of rent.
