Software Blamed For Inter Results’ Fiasco

Education Secretary Janardhan Reddy - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Telangana Education Secretary Janardhan Redy accepted that there were mistakes in the conduct of Intermediate exams and the subsequent declaration of results. However, he attributed the mistakes mainly to software issues.

He addressed a press conference here on Saturday after the three-member committee, constituted to look into irregularities in declaration of Intermediate results, submitted its report to the State government on Saturday.

“The Board of Intermediate has taken good decisions, but it failed to implement them. So, the problem has been with the execution, but not with the very decisions of the Board,” he clarified.

Touching on the gamut of issues concerning the results, he said, the discrepancies in the results came to the attention of the Board within two to three hours after the results were declared on April 19. The problems arose mainly due to coding and the attendance of the candidates did not reflect properly in the database. Some of the problems were due to bubbling in the OMR sheets. Conducting data analysis before the results would have been saved the imminent problems. The three-member committee suggested that the Board should increase the capability of the server, he said.

The Education Secretary said that the government did not pay the bills to the tainted software firm, Globarena, alluding to the fact that the government would act against them for irregularities. “We would initiate stern action against the firm,” he added.

He urged the students to take advantage of free re-evaluation and re-counting services extended for students who were declared as ‘failed’. The Secretary added that the government would take concrete measures to ensure that such mistakes do not recur.
