Feed the Need refrigerator in Hyderabad  - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation comes up with a humane solution to address the problem of hungry destitutes in the city of Hyderabad. GHMC has introduced ‘Feed the Needy’ program along with an NGO. As a part of this program, a public refrigerator has been set up, where people can drop their surplus food.
Generally, food is leftover in large quantities in functions, hotels and this food will be used to feed the needy. The first ever ‘Feed the Need’ refrigerator has been set up opposite Shilparamam, Madhapur.

GHMC is partnering with with Apple Home for Orphans Children, Manikonda, a non-governmental organisation to implement this noble initiative. Nine more such public refrigerators are going to come up in different areas of Hyderabad. How it works: People with excess food can drop it in these fridges. People in need can take the food from the fridge, without paying any money. The refrigerators are going to be maintained by the NGO to ensure that no stale food is being served, tweeted GHMC Serilingampally Zonal Commissioner D Hari Chandana.

GHMC was consulted by the NGO to come up with 530 litres capacity refrigerators at 10 locations funding the project on its own. A physically challenged person will be provided employment to look after the fridge and clean it daily. The first fridge was launched by GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
