Mass Exodus From Telangana Congress Continues Unabated

Sabitha Indra Reddy - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: The Congress party in Telangana seems to be going through a tough phase with major party leaders defecting to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party. As per the reports, Senior Congress leader and legislator Sabitha Indra Reddy representing Maheshwaram along with Congress MLA Kandala Upender Reddy are expected to join the ruling TRS party.

Speculation further arose with the Palair MLA meeting TRS working president KT Rama Rao in his office on Thursday.

Once the MLA shifts his loyalties to TRS, the Congress tally will come down to 13 MLAs. In the 2018 state elections, the party garnered 19 seats of the 119 Assembly seats.

Keeping in view the rate of defections, the Congress could likely lose official status as the Opposition party in the state, since a party requires at least 10 percent of the total number of seats in the Assembly to maintain the Opposition status, which is 12 seats in Telangana.

Recently, four MLAs - Rega Kantha Rao representing Pinapaka, Athram Sakku from Asifabad, Banoth Haripriya belonging to Yellandu and Chirumarthi Lingaiah from Nakrekal expressed their willingness to join the TRS party.

Meanwhile, former Home Minister of undivided Andhra, Sabitha Indra Reddy quit the Congress party on Wednesday and announced her decision to join the TRS. According to sources, her decision came in the wake of her son Karthik Reddy being denied the Rajendra Nagar Assembly seat. Karthik Reddy quit the Congress party two months ago due to the same reason.

Sabitha Indra Reddy sought the seat to contest from Chevella constituency and also be inducted into the cabinet. TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has not given assurance to her so far, regarding her induction into the cabinet.

During a meeting in Chevella, Sabitha Indra Reddy and Karthik Reddy will be welcomed in the TRS party officially. KCR informed that 10 MLAs from the Congress are willing to join the TRS.
