Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a repeat offender attempted to end his life before judge after he was arrested for several offences.

According to the police, the prisoner identified as Sheik Amir, a resident of Kishan Bagh locality in Bahadurpura in the city, was arrested several times in the past in robbery and theft cases. Even after undergoing jail term, Amir did not change his ways and continued to commit offences. When Amir was caught recently by the Rajendranagar police, he was charged under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act.

On Tuesday, undertrial prisoner Amir was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Upparpally. During the hearing, Amir took out a blade from his pocket and started slashing his face and his chest in the courtroom in the presence of judge. The police immediately rushed a profusely bleeding Amir to a nearby hospital. The judge directed the officials to provide proper medical aid to Amir.

Amir is involved in two theft and four robbery cases. A case has been registered against Amir for the suicide attempt also, the police said.
