People’s Leader YS Jagan Walks in YSR’s Footsteps

Hyderabad: YSRCP chief and Leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is walking in the footsteps of his father and late chief mister of United Andhra Pradesh, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Similar to his father, YS Jagan has also embarked on a long padayatra which successfully completed 100 days on Wednesday. During his padayatra spanning 180 days, YS Jagan will cover 125 constituencies and a distance of 3000 kms.
YS Jagan’s six-month-long padayatra began on November 6 at Idupulapaya in YSR district where the mortal remains of YSR was laid to rest and will culminate at Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district. Interestingly, his father's historic Padayatra too had culminated at Ichchapuram. During his padyaatra YS Jagan would interact with over 2 crore plus people. Given the kind of rousing reception, overwhelming response and unwavering support that the padayatra has garnered over the last three months, it clear that YS Jagan too is loved by the masses and is a people’s leader just like his father.
60 days Padayatra
Late chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy undertook padaytara in 2003 which covered nearly 1500 kms. The intent was to understand the problems faced by people in drought-hit areas.
Districts Covered
During his Praja Prasthanam padayatra, YS Rajasekhara Reddy covered RangaReddy, Medak, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, West and East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and concluded the same at Ichchapuram in Srikakulam. Apart from getting a first-hand account of people’s problems, Dr YSR also interacted with people to know the cause of their growing grievances.
Fulfilled Promises After Coming To Power
After his sweeping victory, YS Rajasekhara Reddy as stated in his manifesto fulfilled every promise he made to the people. He waived the farm loans and provided uninterrupted electricity for seven hours. Apart from the existing irrigation projects, he also implemented new projects like Arogyasri to ensure medical care for every family and also fee reimbursement scheme to enable students from poor families to pursue their education.
