Advocate Khaja Moizuddin Murder: Accused Detained in Bengaluru
The investigation into the sensational murder of senior High Court advocate and Waqf activist Khaja Moizuddin gathered pace on Sunday after Hyderabad police detained two key suspects for questioning.
According to sources, police teams traced Mahbub Alam Khan and his son Mujahid Ali Khan to Bengaluru and brought them to the Abids ACP office as part of the ongoing investigation. While officials have not formally confirmed their arrest, the detentions triggered protests from supporters of the slain advocate and members associated with AIMIM.
Police Suspect Contract Killing Angle
Investigators suspect the murder was a meticulously planned contract killing carried out by hired assailants brought from outside Telangana to avoid identification. The probe is being supervised by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, with multiple special teams working on different leads.
Police believe the attackers executed the operation with precision after conducting extensive surveillance on the victim’s movements.
CCTV Footage Reveals Days of Surveillance
The case took a crucial turn after investigators examined CCTV footage from Nampally and nearby localities. Officials reportedly found evidence suggesting unidentified suspects had been monitoring Moizuddin’s residence and routine movements for nearly five days before the attack.
Police identified the movement of six individuals linked to the crime. Two suspects were allegedly travelling in the SUV used in the attack, while others followed on motorcycles to monitor the situation and coordinate escape routes.
After the assault, the attackers are believed to have escaped towards Shamshabad through the PVNR Expressway.

SUV Used in Attack Traced
Investigators have recovered the SUV allegedly used in the crime and detained its registered owner for questioning. During interrogation, the owner reportedly told police that he had sold the vehicle nearly six months ago, but the buyers had not completed ownership transfer formalities.
Officials suspect the masterminds deliberately used vehicles and operatives that could not be easily traced back to them. Police teams are currently searching for the hired assailants, who are believed to have fled Hyderabad immediately after the incident.
Advocate’s Family Alleges Prior Threats
The slain advocate’s son, Khaja Farhan, who is also a practising lawyer, alleged that his father had been receiving threats for several months over disputes related to Waqf properties.
In his complaint, Farhan claimed that Mahbub Alam Khan and Mujahid Ali Khan had earlier attempted to intimidate his father and that complaints regarding those threats had already been submitted at different police stations.
He also expressed concern over his own safety and questioned why stronger preventive action was not taken despite repeated complaints before the murder.
Morning Routine Ends in Tragedy
According to the FIR, the incident took place around 5.45 am on Saturday when Moizuddin stepped out for his regular morning swim.
As he approached his parked vehicle near Vijaya Towers in Nampally, a speeding SUV allegedly rammed into him deliberately, throwing him several metres away. Hearing the impact, Farhan rushed outside and found his father critically injured on the road.
Moizuddin was initially shifted to Mahaveer Hospital and later moved to Omni Hospital in Abids, where he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
Police initially booked the case under charges including attempt to murder, rash and negligent driving, criminal conspiracy, and endangering human life under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following his death, the case was subsequently altered to murder.
FIR Describes Incident as ‘Pre-Planned Murder’
The FIR reportedly states that CCTV footage and preliminary findings pointed towards “a clear pre-planned murder.” Investigators noted that Moizuddin had been actively pursuing sensitive legal disputes linked to Waqf properties and had ongoing conflicts with the suspected accused.
Police sources indicated that the conspiracy may have been planned over several months. Officials are also examining an earlier incident in which the advocate was allegedly threatened while offering prayers at the Aliya Mosque in Abids.
The murder of the senior advocate has sent shockwaves across legal and political circles in Hyderabad, with growing demands for swift arrests and a comprehensive investigation into the alleged interstate contract killing network behind the crime.
