Valentine’s Day Bank Holiday: Are Banks Closed on February 14 and 15?

Customers planning bank-related work in mid-February should take note of the upcoming two-day bank holiday across India. Both public and private sector banks will remain closed on February 14 and February 15, 2026, resulting in a long weekend for bank branches nationwide.

According to the RBI bank holiday list for February 2026, February 14 falls on the second Saturday, which is a mandatory holiday for banks across the country. This will be immediately followed by Sunday, February 15, the regular weekly holiday, leading to consecutive bank holidays.

Why Banks Are Closed on February 14 and 15

As per Reserve Bank of India guidelines, all scheduled banks—including public sector banks, private banks, regional rural banks, and major institutions such as the State Bank of India—remain shut on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, along with all Sundays. Since February 14 is the second Saturday and February 15 is a Sunday, banks will not operate on either day.

While these weekend holidays apply nationwide, customers should remember that bank holidays can vary from state to state due to regional festivals or local observances. It is advisable to confirm the local holiday list with the nearest bank branch to avoid last-minute inconvenience.

Banking Services That Continue During Holidays

Although bank branches will be closed during these holidays, customers will still have access to essential banking services through digital platforms. Internet banking and mobile banking services will remain functional. Digital payment systems such as UPI, IMPS, and online fund transfers will continue to work without interruption. ATMs are expected to remain operational for cash withdrawals, balance checks, and other basic services.
