After Cyclone Montha, AP Braces for More Rains on November 6

Light to moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely to lash parts of Krishna, Prakasam, Nellore, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts on Thursday (November 6).

Isolated areas in other districts may also experience light rainfall with thunder activity, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).

APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said the rainfall activity is due to a trough extending from the southwest Bay of Bengal to north Kerala across Tamil Nadu, which is influencing weather conditions over the southern parts of the State.

Responding to queries on whether the system might intensify into a cyclone over the next week, APSDMA clarified that there is no such possibility. “Based on the current information, the weather is expected to turn mostly dry from November 7 onwards,” the authority said.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Rayalaseema between November 5 and 7.

As of 4 pm on Wednesday (November 5), APSDMA reported 65.2 mm rainfall in B Cherlapalli (Prakasam district), 45 mm in Gandlapenta (Sri Sathya Sai district), 40.5 mm in Rapur (Nellore district), and 39 mm in East Vijayawada.

The latest spell of rain comes just days after Cyclone Montha battered Andhra Pradesh, causing widespread damage across 25 of the State’s 26 districts.
