Hyderabad To Turn Mega City By 2030: UN Report

New Delhi: By 2030 Hyderabad will be listed in world’s mega cities as its population would cross 10 million, according to the 2016 World Cities Report released by the UN’s department of economic and social affairs.

Mega cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai have been listed in 2016 mega cities report, while Hyderabad and Ahmedabad will join them by 2030 with their population crossing 10 million

Currently with over 10 million population India is home to five mega cities and Delhi will continue to be the second most populous city in the world till 2030.

Mega cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai have been listed in 2016 mega cities report, while Hyderabad and Ahmedabad will join them by 2030 with their population crossing 10 million.

The reports has come to an assessment by using concept of ‘urban agglomeration’ instead of administrative boundaries of cities. According to ‘urban agglomeration’ it is the contiguous urban area or built-up area.

It has been reported that 500 million people live in 31 such mega cities around the world and according to the report number of mega cities will increase to 41 by 2030 and the population will go up to 730 million.

It further stated that, by 2030 out of 41 mega cities 33 will be coming from the third world.
