High Court Directs AP Private Medical Colleges Not to Finalize Management Quota Admissions

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has ordered private medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh (AP) not to finalize the ongoing MBBS admissions done under the management quota until further orders. In this regards, the Court has directed the Andhra Pradesh government, NTR University of Health Sciences and the central authorities looking after MBBS admissions through NEET, the AP private medical and dental colleges association and other central and state authorities to put management quota admissions on hold.

The HC Bench comprising Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice Anis said these admissions would continue to remain provisional till the High Court examines the allegations about the way the private medical colleges in the state are filling the management quota seats.

On Sunday night, the Bench heard a house motion moved by one Chalamani Sai Ravindra Reddy from Ongole . The Bench took upon itself the task of verifying whether the authorities have followed the procedure properly and summoned the records pertaining to the admissions.

The Bench has directed the AP Private Medical and Dental Colleges Association secretary and the association’s selection committee convenor to produce the list of candidates provisionally selected for admissions to the MBBS courses by September 8.
The Bench said that the list should contain the names of the candidates, their NEET roll numbers, the ranks they secured in the NEET and the order of merit details. The Bench has also found fault with the state government for leaving things entirely to the private players.

The state, which has been issuing notifications for seat sharing among the member colleges of the private association till last year, has not issued any such notification this year. However, B Devanand, counsel for AP’s medical and health wings, sought time to convey the stand of the state in this regard.
The petitioner had charged the State with leaving medical aspirants to the mercy of the private players completely though it is duty bound to monitor the same.

Ponaka Janardhan Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, said that moreover, persons who had not even appeared for NEET-2016 and those who got lesser marks than the petitioner were selected. The matter will be heard again on Thursday.
